RULES, REGULATIONS AND OTHER INFORMATION

AMATEUR COMPETITION
a) Novice Bronze - Closed to ISTD Bronze. Awards given to top 3 couples. Open to Amateur Couples who have not won a previous Novice-Bronze event more than 2 times with 3 couples participating.

b) Novice-Silver - Closed to ISTD Silver. Awards given to top 3 couples. Open to Amateur Couples who have not won a previous Novice-Silver event more than 2 times with 3 couples participating.

c) Novice-Gold - Closed to ISTD Gold. Awards given to top 3 couples. Open to Amateur Couples who:
i) have not won a recognized event over 3 or 4 dances in which semi-finals were danced, and who have not won a recognized Junior Championship, or
ii) have not placed first in a 2 dance event 3 times, providing semi-finals were danced.
Standard results do not apply in Latin and vice-versa.

d) Pre-Championship - Awards given to top 6 couples. Open to Amateur Couples who:
i) have not placed 1st in a Pre-Championship event more than 3 times providing semi-finals were danced, or
ii) have not placed in the finals of an Open Championship event more than 3 times in which semi-finals were danced.
Standard results do not apply in Latin and vice-versa.

e) Clothing Restrictions - Ladies may wear cocktail dresses, ballgowns, or latin dresses. Gents may wear suits, tuxedos, tails, sweaters, vests or latin attire.
COMPETITORS CONDUCT
All competitors, while on the competition premises, shall conduct themselves in a civil sportsmanlike manner. Each competitor is responsible to be in the ballroom ready to dance 30 minutes in advance of the scheduled time for any event.
GENERAL ADMISSION TICKETS
Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the Ballroom door and may be standing room only.
LIABILITY
"No responsibility for loss or theft of articles left in changing rooms, ballrooms or hotel rooms can be accepted by the organizer, N.D.C.A., or the hotel, and neither can they be held liable for any injury sustained by persons attending the St. Louis Star Ball Championships. Everyone attending does so at their own risk."
N.D.C.A RULES
"All persons attending the St. Louis Star Ball Championships, whether as spectators, competitors, officials, or guests of the organizer, shall be bound by the National Dance Council of America Inc. rules, and by participating in this event automatically become obligated to adhere to them."
N.D.C.A. REGISTRATION
Professional Competitors and Pro/Am Teachers must be registered annually with the N.D.C.A. National Registrar. An official registration number is required on the Entry Form. If in the process of registering, the number must be provided upon Registration at the St Louis Star Ball. For further information contact: Lee Wakefield, National Registrar, NDCA, P.O. Box 22018. NON-PACKAGE HOLDERS
Competitors and/or Spectators not on a Package Plan will be required to purchase "General Admission" tickets in addition to having paid their dance "Entry Fee(s)" if competing.
PRO/AM COMPETITION
a) Entries - There is no limit to the total number of entries a student can have in Pro/Am events. However, a student's entries must be within two consecutive Dance levels (i.e., Bronze and Silver, Silver and Gold, Gold and Open).

b) Newcomers - Open to beginning students who have never competed in any ballroom competition.

c) Closed Categories (American and International) - Applies to Bronze, Silver, and Gold categories. A student who has won a first place award with 5 or more couples must compete in the next higher category in that dance(s). Bronze American material used should be based on the N.D.C.A. syllabus. All other levels must use N.D.C.A., Fred Astaire and Arthur Murray social step list. International is restricted to I.S.T.D. syllabus.

d) Gold Star (American and International) — Applies to students who have progressed through the closed categories or who elect not to compete in the closed categories. There are no restrictions regarding the number of times a student may enter or the number of first place awards he/she may receive.

e) Pro/Am Scholarships - Students may enter only one type of scholarship (either Closed or Open) within each style. Closed Scholarships limited to Bronze and Silver Syllabus. Students who compete in Gold or Gold Star Single Dances may not enter a Closed Scholarship in the same category. In addition, students must have entered at least four (4) Pro/Am One Dance events.

f) Solo Exhibitions - Solo routines must be less then 2 1/2 minutes in length and the music should be provided on separate cassette tapes or CD. All Solo Exhibitions will be danced on Thursday Evening.

g) Clothing Restrictions - Gents required to wear coats, vests or sweaters in all Smooth and Standard Events.
PROGRAM ADVERTISING
If interested in placing a business or "Friends of the Ball" advertisement in the St. Louis Star Ball Program, please contact Just Dancing at (636) 227-7202. Advertisements must be full page (81/2 x 11), 1/2 page, or 1/4 page. Artwork and payment must be received no later than 27 February 2007.
REFUND POLICY
Cancellations received after 21 February 2007 may be charged a $50 processing fee.
RESTRICTED CATEGORIES
Will be strictly supervised and Competitors committing infractions will be penalized (placed last).
VIDEO TAPING
NDCA rules prohibit the use of private video equipment. No video equipment will be allowed in the ballroom. There will be a professional video company present at the competition.
